On December 19, the 80th Event of Academic Series of "Hujiang Economy and Management Symposium" was held in the Lecture Hall on the 4th floor of Building A of the Business School. Lyu Ke, a lecturer of the Department of Industrial Engineering, gave an academic report entitled Combinatorial Auctions in Transportation Service Procurement. This report attracted more than 40 participants.

Firstly, Ms. Lyu introduced the background and significance of studying combinatorial auctions in transportation service procurement. She described the two important decision-making problems in combinatorial auctions: the carriers’ bid generation problem and the auctioneer’s winner determination problem. She also pointed out the importance of the auction mechanism.

Then, she divided the main content of the report into two parts. The first part introduced the two-phase combinatorial mechanisms with clock auction phase and supplementary bidding phase. The ideas, implementation steps, and the effect of improving the efficiency of the auction were introduced in detail. The second part described two bid generation problems with different characteristics. The first problem considered a bid generation problem with reserved transportation tasks. The MILP model and set partition model of the problem were introduced, as well as the column generation algorithm that solves the problem. The second problem considered a multi-period bid generation problem with the consideration of probabilistic transportation tasks. The models and the Benders decomposition algorithm for the problem were described.

Finally, Ms. Lyu compared and analyzed the results obtained by the model and algorithm, and summarized the practice revelation brought by the results.
